Global Seven Launches Two New Ingredients
October 21, 2005
By: TOM BRANNA
Editor
Global Seven recently introduced two new ingredients for the personal care industry. HEST 2T5E-4HS (INCI name: PEG-5 ditrimethylolpropane tetrahydroxystearate). This 100% active, vegetable-derived replacement for lanolin melts at body temperature. In skin products, this ester provides a water-resistant film, helps boost SPF and provides barrier properties. It is also recommended in hair pomade to provide shine and gloss. Also new is Global 4075 (glyceryl isostearate (and) caprylic/capric glycerides). Global 4075 is a light color, low odor liquid consisting of a blend of glyceryl esters. It is highly effective in anhydrous, non-polar systems creating products ranging from flowable gels to hard sticks. The function of Global 4075 is to facilitate incorporation of the gelling agent, sodium stearate, into the anhydrous composition. By varying the ratios of ingredients in the composition, clarity and hardness can be varied from crystal clear and water white to opaque and creamy. Composition of the non-polar ingredients can include mineral oil, mineral oil replacements, esters, silicones, sunscreens, vegetable oils or fragrances. Croda Offers Milk-Based Product for Hair and Skin Care
Edison NJ-based Croda Inc. has launched Hydrolactin QM, a new hair conditioning agent based on the goodness of milk. According to company executives, Hydrolactin QM is packed with nutritious, wholesome milk proteins that moisturize and condition hair. It has been scientifically proven to reduce static build-up and improve wet combing. Salon tests confirm it improves the feel and appearance of hair. It is ideal for all types of applications, as this quarternized milk protein is substantive to both hair and skin, imparting long-lasting conditioning benefits from leave-on and rinse-off systems. Hydrolactin QM is also suitable for cold process systems and is compatible with surfactants, enabling formulators to create richer and creamier foams. More info: (732) 417-0800.
Aerosil Fumed Silica Available as a Liquid
Degussa’s Aerosil fumed silica is now available in liquid form. Aerodisp water-based dispersions are produced locally at the company’s new dispersion plant in Mobile, AL. With the Aerodisp product line, the company is able to supply a variety of fumed silica and metal oxide dispersions. The high purity and the special aggregate structure of the dispersed SiO2, Al2O3 and TiO2 particles make these dispersions ideal for many different applications. Aerodisp dispersions are easy to handle and their consistent, high quality makes them excellent to work with. Depending on the product, solid contents vary between 12% and 50% by weight, with narrow particle size distributions ranging from 50 to 300 nanometers. More info: Website: www.degussa.com.
Malvern Launches Spraytec System
Malvern has introduced a new generation Spraytec system for particle size analysis of aerosols and sprays. Spraytec delivers a fully automated analysis of high concentration aerosols and sprays from a robust platform, but has a data acquisition rate four times faster than its predecessor, covers more than double the size range, is driven by standard operating procedures that allow single click operation, and has a sleek new look. Malvern’s laser diffraction-based Spraytec system is an established tool for particle-size analysis in sprays delivering real-time, high-speed measurements with the complete characterization of both continuous and pulsed events. The new Spraytec has an increased data acquisition rate of 10 kHz, allowing extremely accurate analysis of the dynamics of spray atomization and dispersion. Spraytec’s optical design, efficient air purging, and the ability to use a range of optical bench sizes overcome the physical challenges of measuring dense, widely distributed sprays and allow the continuous operation necessary for meaningful measurement and analysis. DeWolf Chemical Introduced Triple Benefit Betaine
De Wolf Chemical launched a high-active product that provides the flexibility to use any preservative and to formulate very concentrated cleansing products. Higher activity and less water shipped can help lower formulation costs. Mackam 50-UL has an activity level 25% higher than traditional grades of cocamidopropyl betaine making it hostile to microbial growth, thus eliminating the need for a preservative. It contains approximately 2% of a biodegradable chelate that imparts enhanced hostility to microbial growth, and makes it ideal for EDTA-free formulations. According to the company’s in-house foam studies, Mackam 50-UL produces higher initial foam and more stable foam than other available product in medium hardness water. The product contains a low level of free amidoamine, which means a milder, lower sensitizing product. Mackam 50-UL also has ultra low levels of free fatty acid. SteroKem Ltd. Introduces Powder Detergent
SteroKem Ltd. launched Kemphos 2001, a chlorinated alkaline powder (pink or white) detergent that cleans, disinfects, whitens and deodorizes. The production process and the chemical reaction provide chlorinated trisodium phosphate as a homogeneous product, where chlorine exist in the product’s molecules. The pink powder can be used in a formula where the solution’s color changes from pink to grey/greenish when milk residues still exist in the system. A pink solution at the end of the circulation process ensures a completely clean system. Kemphos 2001 has a pH of 11.0-12.5 to remove fats and proteins and a minimum of a 3.3% chlorine concentration to provide disinfecting properties and destroy microorganisms. A 17% minimum phosphate concentration cleans effectively and provides water-softening functions. More info: 972-4-846-8477; [email protected].
Silab Introduces New Ingredients
In order to improve skin resistance and limit the appearance of fine lines, Silab has introduced Elastonyl, an anti-stretch mark and anti-wrinkle ingredient that protects and repairs elastic and collagen tissue. Elastonyl combats the degradation of elastic tissue by inhibiting the expression of proteolytic enzymes such as MMP-1, MMP-2 and cathepsin L. This new ingredient favors the organization of the fibril network by stimulating the synthesis of collagen and fibrillin. The company’s Exfolactive is a peeling booster that helps skin restore its exfoliation capacities by stimulating the activity of skin enzymes involved in the natural process of peeling. A new concept of hydration, Aquaphyline, regulates the process of epidermal hydration by maintaining the ideal equilibrium between irrigation and retention. It improves water circulation from the dermis to the epidermis by stimulating the synthesis of aquaporins-3 and increases the epidermal water binding capacity.
